Portugal NIF Price Comparison: Online Services in 2026

One baseline before the price table: the NIF itself costs nothing. The tax office charges no fee for issuing a NIF. If you can visit a Finanças desk yourself, you do not need any of the companies below. Their paid work is remote filing: documents, power of attorney and communication with Finanças while you are abroad.

How much does a NIF service cost in Portugal?

A remote NIF filing costs €79 to $150 as a first payment. Novomove charges €79, Visas.pt €95, Anchorless and nifportugal.com start at €99, Bordr charges $150, and e-residence.com shows its price inside the application form. We checked each service page on 23 July 2026.

Novomove and Anchorless show promotional prices with crossed-out list prices (€119 and €149), so check the live page before paying. e-residence.com sends you into the application form to see current pricing. Its Trustpilot profile also covers the company's other country services, so the 2,683 reviews are not only about Portugal NIF applications.

Which NIF service is the cheapest?

For the first payment, Novomove is the cheapest at €79. A full-year comparison changes the picture because the services include different periods of fiscal representation.

If you need representation for 12 months, nifportugal.com's €99 plan becomes €264: €99 for the application with one month included, then €15 per month for the remaining eleven months. Bordr's $150 and Novomove's €79 cover the year. Anchorless includes 6 months and does not publish the next 6 months on its page, so you cannot calculate a 12-month total from the site. Visas.pt does not state how long its included representation lasts.

Before comparing renewals, check whether you need representation at all. A non-resident who activates electronic notifications on Portal das Finanças or ViaCTT is exempt from appointing a fiscal representative under LGT article 19 n.º 15, added by Decreto-Lei 44/2022. The exception is non-resident self-employed activity in Portugal, where VAT rules still require one. Which NIF service is the fastest?

Anchorless advertises delivery from 24 hours. nifportugal.com promises 48 hours on its €249 Express tier, and e-residence.com claims 1 to 3 business days from complete documents. Bordr publishes the slowest timeline, 2 to 3 weeks. Treat these as service targets, not guarantees. Your own turnaround matters too, because you still need to sign the power of attorney and send usable documents.

Do you need a paid NIF service at all?

Issuing the NIF requires no fiscal representative at the moment of registration (Ofício Circulado 90057/2022, pontos 2-3), and for residents of the EU and EEA a representative is always optional (ponto 3.2 of the same Ofício). Paid services solve a practical problem: someone has to file the application in Portugal, and doing it from abroad means giving power of attorney to a person there.

If you live in the EU/EEA, or you can visit Portugal before you need the number, the free route through Finanças costs €0. If you live outside the EU/EEA and need the NIF before arrival, a paid filing service is usually the practical route. Do NIF services auto-renew the fiscal representation?

Three of the six renew representation by default. Bordr states it on its own page: "At the end of that year, your fiscal representation will automatically be renewed at a rate of $150 USD / year". To avoid the charge, you need to act during the first 12 months: update your address, appoint someone else, or activate electronic notifications, then tell Bordr. e-residence.com also renews automatically and does not publish the renewal price. nifportugal.com bills €15 per month after the first month until you cancel.

Novomove gives you a clearer choice. It sells the same €79 service in two plans, one with auto-renewal for long-term non-residents and one without. Its page says there is no reason to auto-renew if you are moving to Portugal within the year. Among the six pages we checked, it is the only one that presents not renewing as a normal option.

Is nifportugal.net the same as nifportugal.com?

No, and mixing them up can be expensive. They are separate services, each with its own Trustpilot profile. There, nifportugal.com holds 4.9 from 896 reviews, while nifportugal.net holds 2.9 from 2 reviews, both one-star. One of those reviewers writes that they used the .net site "thinking we were dealing with NIFportugal.com".

The practical rule: type the domain exactly, and open the Trustpilot profile from a link on the service's own site rather than from a search result.

We read the prices and conditions from each service's official page in a live browser on 23 July 2026 and marked promotional prices as such. Where a service does not publish a number, we say so.
